Jhon Duran - Villa's Superstar who is too good for the bench.
Jhon Duran has become one of the most exciting players in the Premier League in only a few months, and with very few starts. Today we look back on his incredible moments in the Premier League.
Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran is making waves in the Premier League, and for good reason. At just 20 years old, the Colombian forward has burst onto the scene with electrifying performances, demonstrating a mix of physicality, technical ability, and a knack for scoring crucial goals. This season, Duran has cemented himself as one of the most exciting young talents in the league, and his rapid rise has been impossible to ignore.
Fans first started to see Duran’s potential late last season in a dramatic game against Liverpool. It was a tough game against a Liverpool team with obvious quality in every area, so Villa had to prove themselves in this decisive game. Coming on as a substitute with Villa trailing 3-1, Duran scored two late goals to snatch an unlikely draw at Villa’s iconic home stadium, Villa Park. His ability to deliver in high-pressure situations and his instinct for goal were on full display that day, setting the stage for what was to come this season, where we have seen his abilities week in, week out, not only in the Premier League, but on the Champions League stage too.
After securing Champions League qualification last season, Villa had a daunting task of hosting Bayern Munich in the League Phase of the competition, and despite massive refereeing drama in the first half, no goals were scored by either team. In the second half, Jhon Duran came on and scored a delicate lob over the goalkeeper to secure a famous 1-0 win at Villa Park, sending pundits and fans alike raving. The game ended 1-0 to Villa, a memorable scoreline for Villa fans with it being the same result that made the European Cup final of 1982 that Villa won against Bayern. Villa were back in the Champions League and Duran has already put a spark in their campaign against the very best of the best.
With all of this brilliance, we haven’t even yet mentioned Villa’s exceptional 3-2 victory over Everton in which Duran scored a rocket of a winner that has been by far the goal of the season in the League so far. With Villa trailing 2-0 at home, Duran scored the decisive goal in this stunning 3-2 comeback victory, rifling the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out. These moments have cemented his reputation as not only a quality striker overall, but also a player for the big occasion.
Now, the only question for Villa is, how can we integrate this superstar into our system? Ollie Watkins is not only an incredible player but also essential to how Villa play, and a two striker system is not how Unai Emery wants to set up this team. Either Watkins will have to adapt to a different position like on the wing or in a deeper role, Emery will have to tactically reinvent his Villa system in the middle of a season, or one of the two strikers will need to be sold. Both are too good to be on the bench anymore.
