My Premier League Team of the Season
But with one player per club. This is going to get interesting.
It is the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season. We have had some unbelievable performances from teams across the league, some performances more expected than others. Today, I am going to create my Team of the Season from the 2024/25 season of Premier League football, but with a slight twist - I can only use one player per club. This should make the list much less weighted to clubs with a higher finish in the league, and allow me to point out some underrated footballers this season. Let’s start with our goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper - Emiliano Martinez
You have to start off strong in net, and that’s exactly why I have gone with World Cup winning Emiliano Martinez. He is a player who I would consider one of, if not the best shot-stopper in the Premier League, and he has proven his abilities countless times throughout the season. One example that still sticks out to me was a save that he made against Forest back in December, and the save is almost impossible to describe without this image that I posted at the time of the save:
He is an absolutely incredible goalkeeper, and I just could not keep him out of this team.
Left-back - Antonee Robinson
For me, Antonee Robinson isn’t just a good left-back, he is the best left-back in the Premier League, and one of the best in the world. He has the defensive ability that you need in a left-back, whilst also being an incredible attacking contributor. He was in double digits for assists this season by the 1st of February this year, and he has not stopped being an incredible footballer since then. He was probably the easiest pick on this list, as although Fulham are an excellent team filled with quality, I would argue that he has reached the point of being truly world-class.
Centre-back - Murillo
This was actually one of the easier picks on this list, because Murillo has been one of Forest’s players of the season, in a season where they have massively exceeded expectations when it comes to their domestic finish. Murillo is a centre-back who embodies solidity and confidence, and very little has gotten past him in some of the most difficult games this season. Not only that, but his defensive instinct and anticipation is up there with the best in the world. His partnership with Milenkovic has been key to Forest’s success, and that duo has been one of the most defining parts of their team this season. The only difficult part about this decision was choosing between him and Milenkovic.
