Nottingham Forest - The most exciting Premier League team right now
What a season Forest are having. They secured a Liverpool win at Anfield that was the first time the club had won at Liverpool since 1969, and are 5th in the table right now.
Nottingham Forest’s resurgence in the Premier League has been completely extraordinary. Last season, they narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 17th. Yet, in just a few months, Forest have transformed into a force to be reckoned with. They’ve climbed as high as 3rd in the league and currently sit at an impressive 5th place, which is a massive contrast to their struggles last year.
But they haven’t had an easy run of games either. Their highlight of their season so far? A sensational win at Anfield against Liverpool, which is arguably the toughest away fixture in the Premier League. Breaking Liverpool’s dominance at home (in their only defeat of the season in the League) is no small feat and speaks volumes about the belief of the Nottingham Forest camp.
When Forest replaced Steve Cooper with Nuno Espirito Santo, the decision was met with some scepticism at first. Cooper was beloved by a lot of Forest fans for guiding Forest back to the Premier League after a long absence, making his dismissal a tough decision for Forest to make. However, Nuno has quickly put to bed any doubts about his managerial capabilities with his ability to get the best out of this squad. He has had Premier League successes in the past with Wolves, getting them promoted to the Premier League and winning a Manager of the Month award after his newly promoted Wolves team went unbeaten in September 2018, and he is now showing more of his capabilities with this Forest side.
One of the brightest stars in Forest’s lineup this season has undoubtedly been Chris Wood. The veteran striker has defied expectations, netting an impressive 8 Premier League goals so far. Wood’s ability to convert chances has been pivotal to Forest’s success, and he has been the definition of clinical. His intelligent movement, physicality, and composure in front of goal have made him a nightmare for defenders and a reliable source of goals for Forest in some of the tight games that they have played so far.
Overall, Forest’s season has been a fever dream so far for players, staff and fans alike. They secured a Liverpool win at Anfield that was the first time the club had won at Liverpool since 1969. Chris Wood is joint second place for the golden boot with 8 goals so far this season. Nuno Espirito Santos is proving to be an inspiring manager. Murillo is leading by example from the back and other players are popping up with massive contributions for the team. Forest can expect a very high finish this season if they keep up their momentum.
Before the season started, I called it on my podcast that Forest would be the most improved team this season and they’ll shock the league. I’ll admit tho, this was beyond my expectations
