Rebuilding Manchester City.
Manchester City need a rebuild. They need key signings in many positions this summer, even after strengthening some areas in January. There will certainly be outgoings for City, and that adds to the need for new players. Let’s get straight into it, and let’s start by talking about outgoings.
Looking at outgoings, the obvious ones are Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker, but they will not be the only players sold. Ederson will most likely leave in the summer, and City will absolutely sign a replacement. This would leave Ortega as second-choice, but he seems desperate to be a first choice goalkeeper for a professional team, and that isn’t going to happen at City, so believe that he will be sold too. Other likely outgoings include Kalvin Phillips, John Stones and Jack Grealish, so we will assume that these players will be sold. Let’s first look at a replacement for Ederson, and I see two candidates for this position.
Diogo Costa
City have been linked extensively with Costa since the news broke that Ederson will probably be sold, and he seems the most obvious option for this position. His shot stopping and distribution are both good enough quality for a Pep Guardiola system, and at 25, he has 5 years of professional experience while still being a relatively young option with plenty of room for development. However, Costa has been linked with many other Premier League clubs, so if his price is inflated because of competition for him, there is another option who I think would be an equally excellent Ederson replacement.
